Ghana’s education sector is facing renewed scrutiny following the release of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, which reveal that more than half of final-year senior high school students performed below expected standards.
The outcome has reignited calls for urgent reforms to address deep-rooted systemic challenges .
According to a press statement issued on December 9, by the Mother of All Nations Foundation (MoANF), the results highlight not only academic shortfalls but also longstanding structural weaknesses in the country’s educational foundations.
Key issues identified by MoANF include overstretched teachers, inadequate infrastructure, limited innovation in teaching methods, weak community involvement, and fragile accountability systems. MoANF warns that if left unaddressed, these challenges could widen inequality and impede national development.
The statement emphasises that the moment demands bold, coordinated action rather than blame. It urges policymakers and stakeholders to adopt a long-term transformation agenda that reflects the realities of learners and educators, particularly in underserved communities.
In response to the urgency, the Mother of All Nations Foundation (MoANF), in partnership with CDD-Ghana’s “I Am Aware” initiative and with support from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, announced an expansion of grassroots education interventions across selected districts in Greater Accra. These interventions focus on strengthening community-led monitoring, empowering Social Accountability Groups (SAGs), and supporting schools to develop tailored improvement plans that address local challenges and leverage community strengths .
MoANF reiterated its belief that no child should be disadvantaged because of their location or school, stressing that every learner deserves high-quality education that prepares them for a promising future.
The organisation is advocating for a reimagined model of schooling—one that nurtures learners holistically and is anchored in innovation, strong partnerships, and accountability at all levels.
