The first headmaster was Mr Dumega, who was assisted by two (2) national service personnel who run the school at its inception. In 2008 under the Chairmanship of Mr. Martin Azumah, the PTA introduced subsidized feeding program to encourage the students to concentrate and learn hard. The PTA since then has been playing significant roles in diverse ways to help the school.

The school was awarded total boarding status by government on the 26th of January, 2016. The school celebrated its belated silver jubilee in October, 2016. The school’s enrolment increased drastically with the inception of the free SHS flagship programme.  Tanyigbe is a community on the Ho-Tokokoe road which is about ten minutes’ drive from Ho Township. Tanyigbe Senior High School is located at Tanyigbe Kpodzi, a suburb of Tanyigbe. It is at the foot of the Akwapim-Togo range. It has the motto “Ʋli Vevie” which translates into English as “Strive Hard”. This motto reinforces the overall intention of the founding members who believed that anything and everything could be achieved if people work hard and are dedicated. This was because earlier attempts to establish a private senior high school in the area did not materialize.

The school has a number of challenges. For instance, the school lacks essential infrastructure like classroom blocks, a dining hall complex, an administration block, library, residential accommodation for staff, sick bay, sport facilities and equipment, among others.  A dining hall complex, an administration block and a twelve-unit classroom block have been under construction.

When this infrastructure is completed, it would help solve some of our infrastructural problems. Despite these challenges, key individuals such as Maj. Gen. Henry K. Anyidoho, Mr. and Mrs. Xetor, Lawyer Robertson Kpatsa and others have significantly contributed to the school’s advancement by providing resources like furniture, a corn mill machine, a sewing machine, among others. Despite the difficulties, the school has achieved remarkable successes. Notable academic achievements include Diana  Amable, who graduated as the overall best graduating student at the University of Ghana in 2020, and Julius Akpe, who became a chartered accountant at a young age.

The school also excels in sports, as seen in the boys’ volleyball team’s gold medal victory at the 2023 Central Zone Sports Festival.
