Five students from Tanyigbe Senior High School had the unique opportunity to represent Ghana at the prestigious 15th Arm-wrestling African Tournament, held at the Borteyman Sports Complex. Despite arm-wrestling being a new sport to them, these determined students exceeded expectations, showcasing remarkable strength and determination.
The tournament, which attracted top arm-wrestling talents from across the continent, saw Tanyigbe’s representatives make a significant impact. Amegatse Blessing led the charge, securing a gold medal, while Ali Bertha earned a well-deserved silver medal, and Ahmed Barikisu took home the bronze. These victories marked an incredible achievement, especially given their relative inexperience in the sport.
Unfortunately, Eleblu Mabel and Gomasi Samuel were unable to compete in the tournament due to injuries sustained during their training. Their absence was felt, but the team’s resilience and outstanding performances made up for the loss.

The success of Amegatse, Ali, and Ahmed at this year’s tournament is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the potential within the Tanyigbe Senior High School athletics program. Their achievements not only bring pride to their school but also highlight the promising future of Ghanaian arm-wrestling on the African stage.
This chance came through the school’s dedicated Physical Education (PE) Madam, Ms. Elizabeth Gyaesayor, who, along with her assistant, Mr. Ameko Dominic, accompanied the students to the event.
The students have proven that with determination and the right opportunities, even those new to a sport can rise to the occasion and succeed at the highest levels. With their victories, they have undoubtedly set the stage for future success and are sure to inspire many more students to take up arm-wrestling and other sports.
Tanyigbe Senior High School continues to be a proud contributor to Ghana’s athletic prowess, and we look forward to seeing more of their talented athletes shine in future competitions.
