The Ministry of Education has announced plans to constitute a technical team in the coming days to undertake a comprehensive review of the Computerized School Selection Placement System (CSSPS).

Speaking during a surprise working visit to Presbyterian Senior High School, in Accra, Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, indicated the initiative is aimed at ensuring greater transparency, efficiency, and fairness in the placement of students into second-cycle institutions across the country.

He also commended the staff for their dedication to duty and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure, teaching resources, and administrative systems that enhance equitable access to quality education.

The Minister emphasized that the forthcoming review of the CSSPS will engage key stakeholders, including education managers, representatives of parents and students, to ensure that the placement system continues to serve the best interests of all Ghanaian children.

“The Computerized Placement System is not working well for the country, and I’m happy to review this, and I will review it. I’ll put in place a committee to review its performance over that period and then give me a credible alternative. What we need is meritorious admission.

“I mean, nobody would accept that you get aggregate six, you can’t get the school of your first choice. What can explain that? It cannot be explained because that candidate has been pushed away by protocol. That’s unfair. And we’ll look into that, and we’ll look very closely to that to see what we’ll do”. he said.

His visit was aimed at interacting with students, teachers, and management of the school to gain firsthand insight into the conditions of teaching and learning, infrastructure, and general preparedness for the academic term.
